Bachelor of Arts in Music degree is to meet the needs of students who want a liberal arts education with significant academic rigor in music as well as applied study and ensemble experiences. This degree affords students the opportunity to hone performance skills and other professional goals within the liberal arts context.
To achieve its goal, the music program provides instruction opportunities for students to:
- Demonstrate advanced skills in the areas of solfege singing, aural skills, music theory, and history of music sufficient for a career in music.
- Synthesize competencies in the areas of music composition, analysis, music technology, arranging, and improvisation.
- Perform as soloists and ensemble members at appropriate levels for public school and studio teaching, and for entering graduate music study.
- Incorporate comprehensive knowledge of musical repertory and styles from many cultures and historical periods into performance and teaching
